Research at the Burns & Plastics Unit encompasses two main areas: research relating to burn injuries; and traumatic injuries requiring plastic reconstructive surgery. Research topics span all aspects of patient care from treatment to healing and recovery, as well as strategies for prevention and reduction of injuries within the community.
Project research teams may include plastic surgeons, residents, nurses, medical students, university students, statisticians, private sector consultants and members of the community. Medical and university students also take part in our active Summer Research and Work-Study Programs.
The research assistant coordinates research projects from design and implementation (including data collection, statistical analysis and evaluation) through to the reporting of results and publication.
