The Team > Nutrition

Proper nutrition plays an important factor in the healing of wounds. Sufficient intake of protein, calories, vitamins and minerals contribute to the process of healing well and quickly. Adequate nutrition also plays an important role in rehabilitation process by minimizing infection and decreasing weight and muscle loss.

Maintaining good nutrition during recovery and treatment can be challenging. Our dietician works with patients and their families to design meals that optimize healing and addresses any pre-existing nutritional concerns. With large wounds, it is sometimes impossible to meet nutritional demands through eating alone. In these cases, a feeding tube is used to deliver nutrition in liquid format. As a Nutritionist, I am responsible for ordering and monitoring these tube feeds to ensure that all nutritional requirements are being met. Like all team members, I am an advocate for the patient, ensuring their recovery time in the Burns & Plastics Unit is as comfortable and brief as possible.
