At the VGH Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, we treat a wide variety
of injuries, including:
- Burns resulting from flames, explosions, hot liquids, or electrocutions
- Severe frostbite
- Diseases that produce large wounds, such as Necrotizing Fasciitis
or "flesh-eating disease"
- Large pressure ulcers
- Wild animal maulings
Our patients range in age from six to sixty plus. The traumatic
events that lead to hospitalization can affect a person on many
levels - physically, socially, psychologically and even spiritually.
To guide patients effectively from wound to wellness, we provide
support recovery in each of these areas. Our treatment team includes
a range of professionals who specialize in different aspects of
health care, but who work together to ensure that our patients receive
the most comprehensive, scientifically advanced and effective approaches
available. Our patients and their loved ones are also members of
our team full collaborators in the journey of healing.
