The path from Wound to Wellness can be a long and lonely road.
And it is always nice to know that you are not travelling alone.
In this section of our web site, we invite anyone on the journey
from burn survivors or individuals coping with situations
that require plastic surgery, to patient family members and friends
to send us inspirational stories, anecdotes, poems or observations
that they would like to share with their fellow travellers and those
who help them along the way.
Please note that we reserve the right to edit submissions for content
length and suitability. Please send submissions (preferably in MS
Word format) to irene.calder@vch.ca.
Please insert "BPU web site inspirations" in your subject line.
Spring Sonnet
First dawn of spring dissolves the crusted night
of wintry gloom. This world, a coloured veil
unrent but rippling in the solar gale,
obscures yet hints of an eternal light.
The well of endless blue holds stars unseen,
awash in tides of bird-song, scent and air;
pale barnacles, black mussels, minnows' stare
all gleam beneath the water's emerald sheen.
Within this bliss a heart of sorrow beats.
But nestled in the sadness Someone sleeps.
A shaft of gold illuminates Her bed.
The chamber glows, warmth spreads across the sheets.
Spring breeze dispels the stillness that She keeps
-
Love wakes and smiles, who seemed, yet was not dead.
