Volunteers are a welcome addition to the care team and provide
an invaluable service by offering social, emotional, and practical
support to patients and families on the BPU. Some general responsibilities
may include:
- Visiting with patients one-to-one to offer respite to families
- Playing with paediatric patients
- Picking up clothing, providing wheelchair rides, accompanying
patients outside for walks, coffee, or trips to the gift store
- Organizing and participating in recreational and social activities
such as playing board games, cards, or reading out loud to patients
- Volunteering to assist patients and families in the Outpatient
Burn clinic

Fundraising
Volunteers are also welcome to participate in fundraising projects
with the VGH Hospital Foundation. If you are interested in helping
raise funds for special projects on the BPU please contact the VGH

BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Camp
Every third week in July, young burn survivors gather in Squamish,
BC for four days of fun, frolic and good times. Survivors enjoy
activities such as swimming, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking,
games and day trips under the close supervision of BC Professional
Fire Fighters, health care professionals, and older burn survivors.
