The British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Burn and Trauma Unit (BPTU) unit is a 24 bed unit located on the 2nd floor of the Vancouver General Hospital's Jim Pattison Pavilion. At the BCPFF Burn, Plastic & Trauma Unit, we treat a wide variety of injuries, including:
  • Burns resulting from flames, explosions, hot liquids, & electrical and chemical trauma and severe frostbite
  • Motor vehicle accidents - driver, passenger and pedestrian
  • Falls or cycling accidents resulting in multisystem trauma and injury
  • Traumatic amputation & reimplantation of fingers and limbs
  • Myocutaneous Muscle Flaps
  • Large Wounds requiring specialized Care.

Patients aged six and older from all areas of British Columbia are referred to the BPTU. Children are treated at British Columbia Children's Hospital.

The traumatic events that lead to hospitalization can affect a person on many levels - physically, socially, psychologically and spiritually. Our multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychiatrist, spiritual care, social workers, volunteers, care aids, and managerial & clerical staff all work as a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the patients receive the most comprehensive health care in order to heal and return from wounds to Wellness.
